"Whatever the reason you're on Mars, I'm glad you're there, and I wish I was with you."

So whats wrong with Creed? I really liked "Human Clay" and "My Own Prison".

My Fear: Religious Flame war to ensue

(Please try to be non-inflammatory)

I have a rant a friend of mine wrote up about Creed, I'm gonna find it and if it's not too insulting, I'll post it.

I read this twice, and I don't think it's terribly inflammatory. This is from a friend of mine called Slaw (just a nickname from High School). He writes newsletters every few months with someone or something to insult, and has been doing it for years. He's a pretty funny guys. With without further ado, I give you: Slaw's Creed Rant.

Dave Gilewski and I found an interesting way to become mortal
enemies of almost any bar dwelling creature. Make fun of Creed. Yes the
horrible band that is Creed has apparently become a barometer on how to judge
what kind of person you are. Well let me do my usual rant on how shitty Creed
is. First Creed is Christian rock. People do you remember what rock and roll
is or was supposed to be? Rebellion, teen angst, and all those wonderful
emotions that don't along with receiving first communion. I find it hard to
accept the fact that taste in music has declined so much that a generic power
ballad singing bunch of big chinned morons can become gods of rock. That
cheesy songs and average musicians can supersaturate the radio and choke out
what little creativity that is being produced today. Kids and morons that
hang with popular trends feed off of the airwaves of the local radio stations
to get an idea of what "good music" is. Before I continue, let me just say
this is not an attack on fans of Creed, more on ignorance. It is one thing to
like Creed for what it is, uncomplicated, digestible, mass produced commerce.
Like most things music is about taste. So some people say you really can't
judge music or even movies or books. Pussies. These are the same people who
think we shouldn't call people who don't win losers. Just because you don't
like something doesn't mean it is bad. For instance someone could not like
The Beatles but still acknowledge their influence and talent. Sounds crazy I
know. But I am getting off topic, back to shitty bands. I don't claim to have
all the answers but I do know one of the solutions is to turn off the radio
and see what else is out there. The radio is fun. You can party with a bunch
of people and sing along to all the songs you remember either because it was
good or because it was always played. But there is life past Creed. Mormons
should be listening to Creed not you. People get on me for my taste in music
when they hear I listen to but I say look at what I listen to and decide. My
taste is all over the board. To say you like that type of music is sort of a
catch-22 because I don't really have a type of music I listen to but then
again the only music I will listen to is good music. That being said I won't
listen to Bare Naked Ladies, Creed, or Dave Matthews Band. As a matter of
fact if you like one or dare I say it, all of those bands, consider yourself
lucky I have yet to stab a blunt object into your skull. Dave and I were
almost attacked when we explained that we'd much rather listen to Heuy Lewis
than anything Creed has to offer. This was met by "you just hate them because
they are popular". Well that is one of the reasons I hate them. Let's face it
there was always a kid in high school that you and your friends thought was
an ass and shouldn't be popular because he was totally fake. That's Creed.
Sorry if Mr. Lewis doesn't "rock out" as hard but he makes great music. Girls
were disgusted at the idea that people didn't love to hear songs about church
and how much dad's love their sons. Those are exactly some of the same
reasons I stay out of church. This topic frustrates me to no end. How people
can listen to Creed and think they are amazing is beyond me. It seems so
simple but like most things its not. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Pearl
Jam, Tori Amos David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Jeff Buckley, Bob Marley, Jefferson
Airplane, The Byrds, Neil Diamond, Bob Marley and NIN are some of the groups
that made me say amazing. Hell even Eminem's new album. Integrity, emotion
and talent can't be mass produced and I feel for people who can't hear it. So
Dave and I have come up with an ingenious idea to show our support or lack
there of. We are going to picket the Creed concert at Alpine Valley. Any fans
of music are welcome to attend and support the cause. More info will be
passed on as details trickle in.........

I am, of course, in no position to complain about anyone's taste in music, since I have Yanni and Tatu on my "honorable mention" lists.

Except rap sucks

"How can you kill that which has no life?"
Surprised there were so many Ben Folds fans here.. I didn't know that a lot of people knew of him.

Anyway (in no particular order):

Ben Folds/(Five), Billy Joel, Elliott Smith, Boston, Chicago, The Eagles, Lynard Skynyrd, Opeth, Pepper, Phish, Sublime, Queen, The Doors, The Beach Boys, Van Halen, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Incubus, James Taylor, Allman Brothers Band... that's just what first comes to mind so I guess I'm better off just stopping there.

By the way as far as composers go... John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Bill Brown will always be up there. I'm obsessed with the soundtrack to the movie "The Rock"

--
The rock is a fantastic soundtrack. I'd say it's my 3rd fav of Hanz's Soundtracks.

1) Gladiator (Patricide is utter Perfection, and with the Gladiator Waltz being inspired by "Mars, Bringer of War")
2) Crimson Tide (Fantastic main theme)
3) The Rock
